The Miu Miu Glitter Shoe Bandwagon

Yeah that's right. Miu Miu again. Where would this blog be without Miuccia eh?
Anyway. I have been slightly obsessed with the glittery banana-heeled shoes of the Fall 2011 show for a long time now, and may or may not have let out a little squeal when I saw them in the flesh in Neiman's the other day. But as always I cannot afford to invest in such a trend-led pair of shoes (I would adore them forever of course, but give it a year and people will be sick of seeing my feet sparkle/cover their carpets in shimmer).

For those of you that can afford the read deal here's my findings from a quick browse earlier today...

3 & 4 are the dream shoes right there! Though 1, 6 & 7 make more practical and versatile choices.

The main reason I began this post, however, is that when I was browsing through Topshop.com this morning with a particular style of ballet flats in mind, my eyes got distracted and excited at the pair below (2) and it only took me seconds to realise that they were a 100% unsubtle take on the Miu Miu collection. I was sorely tempted to buy the little cuties but I think it's too obvious, and I have a real distaste towards 'fakes'. I do slip up occasionally however and incorporating the general trends of the season is rarely something to be frowned upon, so here's some more Miu Miu inspired footwear from the high street...

Imitating Beauty

This has to be the most blatant copy of the amazing S/S '10 Miu Miu platforms I have seen yet, on the high street courtesy of River Island for 54.99.

When I first saw them I got a little overexcited, but when I calmed down a bit I realised that they are classic 'River Island' style and don't even compare to the authentic Miu Miu's. Maybe this is partly brand loyalty, and partly to do with the fact that I wouldn't like to risk any disrespect for wearing copies aka fakes...

I'd much rather wear any pair of these, please.
Opinions?

To Keep or Not To Keep

So while re-browsing through the Dior Couture images on Style.com - a favourite past-time - I spotted this image.

So I now know where the Topshop design team got their 'inspiration'. I finally got my shoes! (Accidentally had them sent home instead of to my halls... oops!) And after my dad and step-mum very kindly snooped and opened my parcel, my dad straight away said 'So can you take them back to the shop then?'... haha... apparently he knows me and knows I'll never wear them. Okay. He's probably right. I'm going to test them out with more outfits to test their wearability, but I'm so unsure. I've already started pondering what to buy with my refund money.

No Flash

Flash - Pasty legs... thanks camera.

I obviously prefere Galliano's original take. The straps are much more flattering. I find the front middle strap a bit too chunky, but on Topshop.com there was only a side view of the shoes...

Opinions please?!

Eagerly awaiting

the arrival of my Topshop shoes...

So what I said about constantly being all monochrome and stuff... yeah I thought I'd be daring, and seeming as orange seems to be the colour to invest in for the summer, why not? Maybe I'll send them back, maybe I'll wear them to death, but all of my heels (bar one tan/wooden pair) are black. It's about time I injected some excitement into my shoe collection instead of just dreaming about them from a distance.

Long time no post...

So, I'm going to post a piece of work that I handed in on monday. It's based on the Colin McDowell's 'Fashion Moment' prices he used to write for the Sunday Times Style, and we had to do our own, based on his style. I ended up doing the platform shoe. I have to say I personally don't like it... It didn't go as planned... I think once I'd gotten it done I just wanted to be happy with having work out of the way

Here goes...

Funky, chunky, clunky; the platform shoe has many admirers, and just as many loathers. It is a style that divides a nation of women. Long associated with the seventies, this style truly emerged many years before in Ancient Greece to raise the height of important characters. It is believed they were revived in 18th century Europe to avoid the grime on the streets, and again in the thirties, forties and fifties in America and Europe.

The arrival of ‘disco’ - with wide-legged pants and sequins - asked for something high and something outstanding to accompany the outfits. This revival, however, seemed to lack the glamour and femininity of the forties, and perhaps this is why the seventies is referred to as ‘the decade that taste forgot’. In the beginning, they were merely blocks of wood or cork with leather straps to stop them from falling off the wearer’s feet, but as the decade progressed, so did the variations of the platform. Even men caught onto the trend, and the likes of David Bowie and Elton John were wearing their own sparkly versions. The trend soon calmed down and platforms sat quietly in the corner waiting for their next big come back.

We have Vivienne Westwood and the Spice Girls to thank for the platforms of the nineties; despite Naomi Campbell’s infamous fall and Emma Bunton breaking her ankle, the fashion forward and devoted fans still hobbled along in their super sized soles. Then once again, the stiletto took over as a more glamorous option - that is until Louboutin platforms became the hot red-carpet shoe and the YSL Tribute shoes were the next ‘must haves’. Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham is still inspiring many women with her love for insanely high heels, and this trend isn’t going away anytime soon. As the fashion focus has become more about the ‘statement’ shoes - as opposed to the ‘statement’ handbag – designers are going to many lengths to create the shoe of the season, sending many a model tumbling down the catwalks for the likes of Prada and Gucci. Better put the chiropodist on speed dial.

PS. Please buy me the Kurt Geiger's. I've been lusting after the navy diamante ones since September, and now this pearly pair have grown on me... £300 though?
